Mirwaiz leads massive protest march in Srinagar

Indian police subject protesters to brute force
Srinagar, July 10: In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led a massive protest march in Srinagar today that was participated by thousands of people including women.
The march commenced from Jamia Masjid Srinagar and passed through Nowhatta Chowk, Hawal, Aalamgeri Bazar and other localities of the city.
On the occasion, the city was resounded with slogans like ‘We want Freedom’ and ‘Go India go’. APHC leaders including Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi and Yasmeen Raja were also among the participants of the march.
The APHC Chairman addressing a gathering in Aalamgeri Bazar demanded release of all Hurriyet leaders and activists. He described the present situation in occupied Kashmir as similar to the imposition of martial law and appealed the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Conference and international human rights bodies, Amnesty international and Human Rights Watch to take immediate steps against India’s aggressive designs.
Meanwhile, several persons were injured when Indian police resorted to heavy baton charge and excessive teargas shelling to break up anti-India demonstrations in Maisuma, Sopore, Kakapora and Pulwama. The authorities re-imposed curfew in these areas while curfew continued in Islamabad for the 12th successive day, today.
The High Court Bar Association of occupied Kashmir, in a meeting chaired by its Acting President, Aijaz Baidar, in Srinagar, today, strongly denounced the detention of the Bar President, Mian Abdul Qayoom under the black law, Public Safety Act.

In New Delhi, hundreds of students of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia staged a sit-in at Parliament Street to protest against the recent killings of unarmed civilians by Indian troops in the occupied territory. The protestors carried placards and banners that read ‘Stop Killing and insulting the protesting people of Kashmir’.
On the other hand, a trooper of Indian Central Reserve Police Force committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle at New Secretariat in Shaheed Gunj locality of Srinagar. This raised the number of such deaths amongst the troops in the occupied territory to 186 since January 2007.
Speakers at a seminar organised by the Kashmir Centre in Brussels expressed concern over the deteriorating situation of occupied Kashmir. They included Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo, Ms Victoria Schofield, Professor Mansoob Murshed, Dr Z U Khan, Ms Sabra Bano, P J Mir, Mohammad Sarwar and Khalid Farooqi.
